You will contribute to the day-to-day running of the home, promote positive outcomes for young people and work closely with the management team to maintain high standards of safeguarding, care and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, person-centred care and emotional support to children and young people.
  • Build trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the home and ensure care plans and routines are followed.
  • Guide and support Residential Support Workers, promoting good practice and teamwork.
  • Promote safeguarding and report concerns in line with organisational procedures.
  • Support young people with emotional regulation, positive behaviour and independent living skills.
  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Contribute to staff handovers, accurate record-keeping and incident reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with managers, social workers, families and other professionals.
  • Encourage participation in education, recreational activities and community life.
  • Assist with staff induction, mentoring and maintaining a positive team culture.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following experience criteria:

  • A minimum of one year’s experience in a senior role within residential childcare or a relevant young people’s service; or
  • At least two years’ experience working with children or young people in residential childcare, supported accommodation or a relevant care or support setting.

Candidates must also demonstrate:

  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour support and professional boundaries.
  • The ability to support colleagues and contribute to effective teamwork.
  • Good written communication and accurate record-keeping skills.
  • A reliable, responsible and flexible approach to shift work.

Qualifications: A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or an equivalent relevant qualification, is preferable. Candidates who do not currently hold the qualification but meet the experience requirements must be willing to work towards and achieve the required Level 3 qualification following successful appointment, within the applicable regulatory timeframe.

Successful applicants will also be required to complete appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, and provide satisfactory employment references.

  • Training, supervision and ongoing professional development.
  • Support to work towards the relevant Level 3 qualification, where required.
  • Opportunities to develop leadership skills and progress within residential childcare.
  • A supportive environment focused on safeguarding, teamwork and positive outcomes.
